Spain wins SwissT20 title for the 3rd consecutive year!
Pak Montcada from Barcelona Spain was crowned the champion of SwissT20, 2023. 6 teams from 5 different nations participated in the 4th annual SwissT20/T10 championship which took place in Stadion Gruendenmoos St Gallen from Sept 8-10.
The highlight of the tournament was participation of three new teams in the tournament. This included two teams from India and one from Belgium. KEI Wire and Cables team is one of the famous Indian teams in New Delhi region as they are also the official sponsor of RCB team in Indian Premier League (IPL), largest cricket league in the world. The second team from India was representing Pro Corporate League (PCL) India, largest corporate league in India, having more than 200 corporate teams from local Indian companies as well as international, including AXA from Switzerland. The tournament was also broadcasted live on Youtube all three days. The competition level of the tournament also increased as the number of players who have represented their countries in National Cricket Teams such as Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Spain also increased.

The tournament also had a new format, which included T20 and T10 formats. 6 teams were divided into 2 pools of 3, where each team played 2 x T20matches. The top team after pool matches, which was Pak Montcada Spain, went straight to the finals of SwissT20. The teams number 2 & 3 played a T10 match to decide who will play the final. This match took place between Germany and Swiss Teams, where the German team, comfortably won against the Swiss team represented by St Gallen Cricket Club.
There was also a SwissT10 combination introduced for teams ranked 4-6, where teams ranked 5 and 6, PCL India and KEI Wire and Cables played a qualifying match to play number 4 Belgium. Belgium defeated PCL India to win the SwissT10 championship. This SwissT10 competition allowed all 6 teams to play on Sunday.
For the main title, SwissT20, German team batted first and posted a total of 159/8 in 20 overs. For final that was a good total but the Spain team showed their power and chased the score down in last over, 19.2 with loss of 8 wickets. This way Spain continues to remain undefeated and became 3rd time champion of SwissT10/T20 in consecutive years. Prizes and trophies were also given to best bowler, batsman, fielder, and captain of the tournament.
The visiting players also enjoyed tourism in the Bodensee region and visited famous places in surrounding areas of St. Gallen, such as Mount Saentis and the Maestrani Chocolarium.
With fourth successful event since 2020, SwissT20 continues to promote cricket in the region as well as brings tourism from around the world in St Gallen region!
For next year, there is already interest from more teams, from Switzerland as well as from other countries such as UK, Italy and USA.
As St Gallen begins to establish itself as a center of cricket events in Europe, the tournament committee especially thanks Ms. Maria Pappa (Mayor of St Gallen), Mr. Mathias Gabathuler (Sports Minister), Alexander Linder (Head of Sports St Gallen), and all of sports officials from St Gallen city which helped to make this event successful!
